Brazil Boosts Oil Imports from Russia, Surpassing U.S. Shipments

Brazil increased its imports of oil products from Russia in August of this year to 920,000 tonnes, which is three times more than the volumes acquired from the United States, according to data from Brazilian customs.

Calculations indicate that Brazil increased its purchases of petroleum derivatives from Russia by 2.1 times last month, while the cost of imports rose by 2.4 times to $672.8 million (approximately R$3.3 billion). For Moscow, this marks an all-time high in shipments to Brasília, both in monetary and absolute terms.

The second-largest supplier was the United States, which reduced exports by a third to 311,300 tonnes, with revenues decreasing by 25% to $281.2 million (around R$1.4 billion).

India took the third spot. Brazil imported 164,500 tonnes worth $155.2 million (about R$773.9 million) of oil derivatives from there, which is 2.6 times more in absolute terms and 3.1 times more in monetary terms than the previous month.

Additionally, over 100,000 tonnes of petroleum derivatives were delivered to Brazil from the Netherlands, Peru, and Saudi Arabia.
