Customs experience queues and halted loads

The impact of federal agricultural tax auditors mobilizing for salary readjustments, which began at the end of 2021, is being felt in the export and import of agriculture products and inputs. There has yet to be a comprehensive study of the “standard operation’s” effects, but shipments are already being held up in ports and vehicles are queuing in customs warehouses at the borders.

There are now 267 trucks waiting for inspection to enter or depart Brazil in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), the largest dry port in Latin America in terms of cargo handling, and in customs on the Paraguayan side.

Three ships are awaiting clearance at the port of Santos (SP), according to the Brazilian Wheat Industry Association (Abitrigo). They are loaded with 100,000 tonnes of Argentine wheat, which is equivalent to the state of São Paulo’s monthly consumption. “If this scenario continues, we are likely to experience shortages,” said the organization’s president, ex-ambassador Rubens Barbosa, to Valor. According to him, the mills operate with minimal inventories, and the threat of a flour shortage is serious.
