This year the Port of Itaja\u00ed has received seven RoRo vessels and is expected to handle more in the last two months of 2018. The port has already handled 13,000 vehicles this year and is forecast to be able to handle 40,000 units within the next few years.<\/p>\n

APM Terminals<\/a>\u00a0Itajai is working to diversify away from solely container handling and has made inroads with a new agreement with General Motors and auto car carriers \u201cK\u201d Line and MOL while also boosting container volume.<\/div>\n
In recent years APM Terminals Itajai has lost cargo to Portonave, operating on a greenfield site (which is cheaper owing to lower labor costs), and to Porto Itapoa.<\/a> Portonave is across the Itajai-Acu River in Navegantes from the APM Terminal facility, and Porto Itapoa, run by a consortium that includes Hamburg Sud, is roughly 160 kilometers away.<\/div>\n

GM Chevrolet has begun importing vehicles for the south and southeast regions of Brazil<\/a> through its 60,000 square meter facility in Joinville \u2014 58 miles from Itajai. The facility, opened in 2020, was originally focused on producing powertrain components for domestically sold Chevrolet vehicles.<\/div>\n
APM Terminals Itajai\u2019s container volume is also rebounding, with volume in October doubling from the same period last year, to 38,717 TEU. That follows 40,695 TEU of volume in August, the stronger monthly traffic since 2012. Container traffic through the terminal is up 40 percent over the last year, to slightly less than 400,000 TEU, tracking close to its record throughput of 416,000 TEU in 2012.<\/div>\n
The attraction of two deepseas services \u2014 the Brazex service to the US Gulf and Caribbean as well as the SamWaf service to South Africa and Mercosur trade bloc coastal service \u2014 have helped drive the growth.<\/div>\n

Ro-ro rebound<\/h2>\n
Heder Cassiano Moritz, the executive director for the Itajai Port Authority (IPA) said that the ro-ro business was \u201cvery welcome\u201d and was a greatly appreciated addition to cargo handling for Itajai, and the additional liner services were also a \u201cmassive booster,\u201d especially after Itajai has lost so much cargo in recent years, much of it to Itapoa and Portonave.<\/a><\/div>\n
“Around the year 2000 there was a regular service from Grimaldi and it lasted around a year, but nothing since then in Itajai,” said Robert Grantham, a director for consultancy Solve Shipping and former commercial director for IPA.<\/div>\n
He said Peugeot imported vehicles but stopped after opening their own plan in\u00a0Rio de Janeiro. With ro-ro traffiic rebounding, GM could tap Itaji or Itapoa, Gratham said.<\/div>\n
Sources in Itajai and Joinville, where GM has several facilities, told JOC.com that GM is also keen to run a few \u201cexperimental\u201d calls at Porto Itapoa, the container handling rival to APM Terminals Itajai, but nothing concrete has been timetabled yet.<\/div>\n
Joinville is the industrial hub and largest city \u2014 with about 520,000 inhabitants \u2014 of the wealthy southern state of Santa Catarina and is a good location from which to distribute automobiles around the south (25 million people) and southeast (82 million) regions of Brazil. These include the wealthy states of Rio Grande, Paran\u00e1, S\u00e3o Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro as well as Santa Catarina.<\/div>\n
Other smaller container terminals struggling to compete with international players, such as DP World (at DP World Santos) and Terminal Link (at Brasil Terminal Portuaria in Santos), have also diversified to survive, venturing into warehousing and much more less-than-containerload cargoes (Rodrimar, Ecoporto Santos, and Libra Terminais) and even handling live cattle for export (Ecoporto Santos), although that has since been curtailed after animal rights protests.<\/div>\n
Other ports in Brazil that handle ro-ro cargo include Santos,<\/a>\u00a0Paranagua,<\/a>\u00a0Rio Grande<\/a>, Rio de Janeiro,<\/a> Vitoria, and Salvador<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

O Porto de Itaja\u00ed recebeu o d\u00e9cimo segundo navio com ve\u00edculos importados da montadora General Motors (GM\/Chevrolet).<\/div>\n
A embarca\u00e7\u00e3o atracou \u00e0s 09:00 horas no ber\u00e7o 3 (porto p\u00fablico), e est\u00e1 sendo operado pela APM Terminals (empesa arrendat\u00e1ria do Porto de Itaja\u00ed), utilizando-se do recinto alfandegado do porto p\u00fablico.<\/div>\n
Trata-se do navio de bandeira panamenha Galveston Highway. Com 199 metros de comprimento por 32 de boca (largura), trouxe a bordo 1686 ve\u00edculos modelos Equinox e Tracker.<\/div>\n
O navio pertence ao Armador K-Line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha LTDA) e partiu do Porto de Altamira, no M\u00e9xico, onde foram embarcadas as unidades.<\/div>\n
De acordo com informa\u00e7\u00f5es da Ger\u00eancia de Opera\u00e7\u00f5es da Superintend\u00eancia do Porto de Itaja\u00ed, as opera\u00e7\u00f5es podem encerrar ainda hoje por volta de 21 horas, e cerca de 100 ve\u00edculos poder\u00e3o ser movimentados por hora. Ao t\u00e9rmino das opera\u00e7\u00f5es, o navio Galveston Highway segue roteiro para o Porto de Santos, litoral de S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/div>\n
A primeira atraca\u00e7\u00e3o \u201cteste\u201d aconteceu no dia 09 de junho, e naquele dia, 500 ve\u00edculos modelo Cruise desembarcaram pelo navio de bandeira do Panam\u00e1, APOLLON HIGHWAY.<\/div>\n
Depois disso somaram-se mais nove opera\u00e7\u00f5es \u201ctestes\u201d, e no dia 01 de novembro, o Porto de Itaja\u00ed recebeu o Navio de bandeira panamenha, Diamond Highway (11\u00aa atraca\u00e7\u00e3o), onde desembarcaram 1688 ve\u00edculos modelos Camaro, Tracker e Equinox chegando a marca de 12.413 unidades.<\/div>\n
Com a chegada de hoje do navio Galveston Highway, o somat\u00f3rio total \u00e9 de 14.099 ve\u00edculos importados da montadora General Motors\/Chevrolet.<\/div>\n
Esse tipo de movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o em portos \u00e9 conhecido pelo sistema ROLL ON ROLL OFF \u2013 quando os ve\u00edculos s\u00e3o conduzidos para fora do navio e encaminhados para uma \u00e1rea prim\u00e1ria do porto. Como praxe, os ve\u00edculos descem por uma rampa sendo conduzidos ao Armaz\u00e9m 03 onde recebem vistoria por parte de profissionais da Ger\u00eancia de Opera\u00e7\u00e3o Portu\u00e1ria. Em seguida se deslocam at\u00e9 o RAC \u2013 Recinto Alfandegado Cont\u00edguo e no local s\u00e3o carregados para as \u201cCegonheiras\u201d e por fim, transportados aos seus locais de destino.<\/div>\n
Recentemente o contrato foi assinado com a APM Terminals para a vig\u00eancia de um ano.<\/div>\n
Desde mar\u00e7o, membros respons\u00e1veis da Superintend\u00eancia do Porto de Itaja\u00ed, Ger\u00eancia e diretores de Rela\u00e7\u00f5es Governamentais da General Motors no Brasil \u2013 Gest\u00e3o Log\u00edstica (TEGMA), diretores da APMT de Itaja\u00ed, diretores da Secretaria de Estado de Desenvolvimento Econ\u00f4mico Sustent\u00e1vel e Prefeitura Municipal de Itaja\u00ed atrav\u00e9s das Secretaria Municipal de Desenvolvimento Econ\u00f4mico, Emprego e Renda, da Fazenda e Procuradoria Geral do Munic\u00edpio realizaram reuni\u00f5es em busca do procedimento correto para a opera\u00e7\u00e3o fluir da melhor maneira poss\u00edvel, n\u00e3o afetando as demais opera\u00e7\u00f5es no cais p\u00fablico e nem afetando o tr\u00e2nsito de Itaja\u00ed para o momento de transfer\u00eancia dos ve\u00edculos para o RAC.<\/div>\n
A montadora GM \u2013 Chevrolet, \u00e9 pioneira no Brasil no seguimento de transporte mar\u00edtimo de ve\u00edculos.<\/div>\n
Depois de passaram pelo servi\u00e7o de nacionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o tem destino programado para as regi\u00f5es Sul e Sudeste do pa\u00eds.<\/div>\n
O Porto de Itaja\u00ed tem hist\u00f3rico associado a estas opera\u00e7\u00f5es de cargas ROLL ON \u2013 ROLL OFF quando nas d\u00e9cadas de 1980, 1990 e 2000, operaram com os principais Armadores que atuam nessa \u00e1rea.<\/div>\n
Para o m\u00eas de dezembro, a Superintend\u00eancia do Porto de Itaja\u00ed e a APM Terminals ainda ser\u00e3o comunicadas pela montadora General Motors quanto ao cronograma de datas prevista de novos desembarques.<\/div>\n
Acredita-se que at\u00e9 o final deste ano, possivelmente o Porto de Itaja\u00ed receba mais de 16 mil ve\u00edculos importados pela montadora GM.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
