The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) has advanced the qualification of the national fishing fleet eligible for export. At the end of this year, three vessels completed the Official Certification of Conformity process, joining the list of boats authorized to supply fish products to demanding international markets such as the European Union and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
The Department of the Fishery Industry conducted the certification (DIP\/SNPI) in accordance with MPA Ordinance No. 75 of May 26, 2023, as amended by MPA Ordinance No. 340 of August 26, 2024. The processes began in the second half of 2025 and followed a rigorous technical procedure, with support from the National Fishery Industry Platform (PNIP).<\/p>\n
During the initial stage, non-conformities were identified, leading the vessels to prepare action plans. The adjustments made were later verified through evidence submitted by the responsible technicians. The use of the PNIP application ensured greater speed and reliability during the initial on-site inspections conducted by the DIP\/SNPI technical team.<\/p>\n
After the pending issues were resolved, the MPA\u2019s technical area reviewed the processes, approved the requests, and issued the certifications. With the update, the number of primary vessels authorized to join the export supply chain to the European Union and the United Kingdom increased from seven to ten.<\/p>\n
According to Jos\u00e9 Luis Vargas, Director of the Department of the Fishery Industry, the new certifications reflect the production sector\u2019s commitment to international requirements. \u201cIn 2026, Brazil will undergo an audit by the European Union, and only certified vessels will be able to supply fish products to that market. Discussions with the United Kingdom are ongoing, and we expect progress soon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Vargas also highlighted that the MPA\u2019s 2026 goal is to expand the number of authorized vessels. \u201cThe Ministry calls on the production sector to begin its certification agendas. It is essential that vessels hold the Official Certificate of Good Hygienic and Sanitary Practices on Board, as established by SAP-MAPA Ordinance No. 310 of 2020,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
