Pec\u00e9m Port begun, on late February, an unprecedented operation to receive 33,900 metric tons of rail tracks destined for the completion of the Transnordestina railway, the port authority said.<\/p>\n
The vessel Spruce Arrow is expected to remain berthed at the Cear\u00e1 terminal until early March, when unloading of the rails \u2014 manufactured in China \u2014 is scheduled to be completed. Combined with existing stock stored at the Salgueiro Industrial Plant in Pernambuco state, the shipment means the Transnordestina project now has enough rails to complete the entire railway.<\/p>\n
The cargo consists of 23,585 rails measuring 24 meters each, which will undergo a welding process before installation along the line. The volume is sufficient to build approximately 283 kilometers (176 miles) of main railway track.<\/p>\n
The unloading operation, carried out jointly by terminal operators Tecer and Unilink, is handling an average of 3,000 tons of rails per day.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis unprecedented operation marks a strategic milestone for our port, reinforcing Pec\u00e9m as a gateway for major infrastructure projects,\u201d said Max Quintino, president of the Pec\u00e9m Complex.<\/p>\n
Part of the newly arrived rails will be used in Lot 11 of the railway, near the line\u2019s connection to Pec\u00e9m, where infrastructure works are currently underway. A superstructure construction site will also be installed in the area to support track assembly.<\/p>\n
The remaining rails will be used across other sections of the project. According to the port authority, construction works on all segments of the Transnordestina railway in Cear\u00e1 are currently mobilized.<\/p>\n
