Transpetro, Petrobras\u2019 logistics subsidiary, said on Wednesday (March 18) it will begin providing maritime transport services to companies outside the Petrobras system.<\/p>\n
The company, which handles fuel transportation for Petrobras via vessels and pipelines, has signed its first such contracts with Trafigura and Ipiranga for maritime shipping services.<\/p>\n
Transpetro said expanding its shipping client base is a strategic move.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new business line broadens the company\u2019s service portfolio, including the chartering of foreign-flag vessels for cabotage (along the Brazilian coast) and long-haul international routes,\u201d the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The subsidiary said the decision to enter the segment reflects the expansion of Brazil\u2019s waterborne transport sector, rising demand for chartering foreign vessels due to the limited availability of Brazilian-flag ships, and increasing domestic oil production.<\/p>\n
Transpetro cited data from the Ministry of Ports and Airports showing that oil and fuel throughput at Brazilian ports reached about 203 million tonnes between January and November 2025.<\/p>\n
Beyond shipping, Transpetro will offer services such as vetting (technical and operational assessments to verify vessel safety standards), fitting (ensuring vessels meet specific terminal requirements), regulatory support, operational monitoring and issuance of transport documentation.<\/p>\n
According to CFO Danilo Silva, the company will provide the market with solutions to enable operations using foreign-flag vessels when Brazilian-flag ships are not available.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe expansion of our activities is aligned with our strategic goals of attracting new clients and increasing revenue,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Transpetro already provides logistics services to more than 130 clients, including fuel distributors, petrochemical companies and other oil and gas firms.<\/p>\n
The company is the largest multimodal logistics operator for oil, refined products and biofuels in Latin America, operating a fleet of 33 vessels, 46 terminals (25 waterborne and 21 inland) and about 8,500 kilometers of pipelines.<\/p>\n
