The Port of Imbituba hosted an international mission on Tuesday (March 24) aimed at strengthening cooperation in renewable energy, as part of the Brazil-Denmark Energy Partnership (BRADEP), an initiative designed to expand technical exchange between the two countries with a special focus on offshore wind power.<\/p>\n
The visit included representatives from Brazil\u2019s Ministry of Ports and Airports, the Embassy of Denmark in Brazil and consulting firm COWI, a global company active in sustainable infrastructure projects. The agenda covered the ports of Imbituba and Laguna, both in Santa Catarina state.<\/p>\n
According to the port authority, the program included a technical immersion in the operating areas of both port complexes, with data gathering and information exchange aimed at assessing available infrastructure and the potential to support offshore wind generation projects in the region.<\/p>\n
The initiative focused on identifying opportunities for the installation of offshore wind farms, taking into account factors related to sustainability, logistics efficiency and long-term viability.<\/p>\n
The visit comes as discussions advance over the infrastructure needed to support Brazil\u2019s offshore wind supply chain, a segment in which ports may play a strategic role both in handling equipment and in supporting installation and maintenance operations.<\/p>\n
In a statement released by the port, SCPAR Porto de Imbituba Chief Executive Christiano Lopes said Imbituba and Laguna are seeking to position themselves as logistics assets for projects tied to the energy transition, supported by their location and existing infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The Port of Imbituba also said it has been adopting measures to diversify its energy mix. Among them is the implementation of a solar photovoltaic generation system, which supplies about 15% of the port complex\u2019s electricity consumption.<\/p>\n
